Nathaly Van Koten is an associate attorney in the Labor and Employment litigation group at Martenson, Hasbrouck & Simon. She represents employers in a broad range of employment matters, including wage and hour class actions, PAGA actions, and claims involving discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, and retaliation.
Prior to joining the firm, Nathaly practiced employment litigation defense in Sacramento. There, she represented employers in single-plaintiff and complex employment matters in state and federal court, defending claims under the California Labor Code and FEHA. Nathaly also worked at a well-respected workers’ compensation defense firm, where she represented insurance carriers, third-party administrators, self-insured employers, and public agencies. Her experience across both practice areas provides her with a nuanced understanding of the intersection between employment law and workers’ compensation matters.
Nathaly earned her Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, with concentrations in International Law and Business Law. During law school, she studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria, took courses taught by former United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, and worked internationally in Madrid, Spain, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements in Spanish.
Before law school, Nathaly obtained a Master of Philosophy in International Peach Studies from Trinity College Dublin. Her dissertation, “The Perpetual Cycle of Poverty: Minority Disadvantages in the U.S. Education System” was awarded distinction. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of the Pacific, graduating magna cum laude.
Outside of her practice, Nathaly enjoys traveling, exploring museums, garden planning, and cooking for family and friends. She is a native Spanish speaker and is fully fluent in Spanish.
