James maintains a practice that is primarily focused on affirmative action compliance and regulatory issues. In this field, James has extensive experience handling OFCCP compliance reviews, violations, and related matters for federal contractors across the United States. James also has experience in handing state and municipal affirmative action compliance matters, as well as affirmative action issues arising by contract. This work has provided James with a deep knowledge of adverse impact in hiring and compensation, EEO policy drafting and implementation, and affirmative action plan preparation. James also maintains long term contacts at several regulatory agencies. James’s work on this topic has focused on the representation of large employers in the security and parking services industries.
James’s labor work involves the handling of contract negotiations for employers in the industrial, manufacturing, and distribution/retail fields. In this context, James has assisted clients in the crafting of collective bargaining agreement proposals as well as the negotiation of these proposals with several large unions. James has also handled several labor grievance arbitrations and unfair labor practice charges across the United States.
James’s practice also involves significant involvement in large wage and hour disputes and Service Contract Act matters, as well as general employment law policy drafting, disputes, and regulatory issues. James’s interests include a focus on the law concerning the consideration of criminal history in employment, and the creation and implementation of employer-focused policies and practices on this topic. While James’s practice is diverse and touches on a wide variety of subjects, the common thread in his work is his attention to and focus on writing, both in terms of traditional legal writing as well as specialized drafting for industry- or employer-specific matters.
Prior to joining the firm, James practiced in the Atlanta office of a national construction law firm. While there, James focused on handling technical delay claims in large government contract and commercial disputes. During that time, James published articles on construction delay and damages issues for industry publications such as Construction Briefings (West), The American Society of Civil Engineers, The American Association of Cost Engineers, and Bruner and O’Connor on Construction Law, among others, and has presented his writing at the Construction Super Conference.
James provides pro bono work for St. Vincent de Paul of Georgia and is a member of the St. Thomas More Society. In his spare time, James enjoys fishing and outdoor activities, as well as spending time with his daughter.
