John is Senior Counsel in the Firm’s Chicago office. With more than 25 years of experience of employment and labor law experience, he represents employers in employment litigation, labor law, compliance, workplace investigations, and workplace solutions, advice, and training.
Before joining Martenson, Hasbrouck & Simon LLP, John spent over two decades in-house at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., most recently as Associate General Counsel and Division Manager of its Corporate Operations Support Division, leading a team of legal professionals across Honda’s manufacturing, sales, and research operations. He previously served as Managing Counsel of Honda’s Employment and Immigration Group, overseeing employment, labor, workers’ compensation, and immigration matters.
John advises employers on hiring and termination, workplace investigations, accommodations, leave management, and wage and hour compliance, and has led compliance initiatives including handbook revisions and policy overhauls. He defends employers in individual and class or collective litigation under Title VII, the ADA, the FMLA, the ADEA, the FLSA, and state anti-discrimination laws, and before the EEOC, state fair employment agencies, OSHA, and the NLRB.
John is a native of Huntington, West Virginia, and received his law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law. He and his family lived in Columbus, Ohio until John and his wife recently relocated to Chicago where two of their daughters live. He is currently admitted in Illinois and Ohio.
John is an avid skier and a member of the Wilmot Ski Patrol. He enjoys listening to music and spending time with his family and friends.
